A Message from the President
The history of
Alexandria University goes back deeper into the ancient B.C. era. It is
synchronized with the history of the Bibliotheca Alexandria which
corresponds to the construction of the city of Alexandria in 331B.C. The
modern Alexandria University was established in 1943. It is deemed to be the
second University in modern Egypt. Cairo University being the first.
On August 2006, I have
the honor of serving as the university president. This represents a unique
privilege as it offers to me the opportunity to help build on the tremendous
accomplishments established by my predecessors, and to move forward to
new horizons. It also carries with it the responsibility to lead an
institution with such a rich and legendary past.
My vision for
Alexandria University is of a university that is taking a leading position
not only at the regional level, but also having a place among the
distinguished Universities in the global arena. In a world rich of ideas.
Challenges, and possibilities, we are working towards the increase of our
international links and the development of new academic exchanges with
numerous foreign institutions. The geographical location of Alexandria City,
as it overlooks Europe from the north across the Mediterranean, Africa from
the south, and surrounded from the East and West by Middle Eastern
universities, facilities communication with other Universities, creates
meaningful connection with others, and allows the exchange of experiences,
cooperation and support.
Students are at the
centre of what we do. Alexandria University is constantly striving to
initiate and develop new and innovative programs to help them succeed, to
provide graduated with more than just a body of knowledge or an area of
expertise, and to adequately supply the needs of the work market.
Hence, we have been
services hard towards that end in order to be able to offer distinguished
and quality controlled educational services as well as extend our assistance
to the surrounding communities.
We have developed a
strategic scheme which charts an ambition course to build on our academic
and institutional strengths. In addition, and to enhance and support the
future of our Universities, we have established the university centre for
quality control and its unites in each faculty, the unite for Technological
Development to link the University with the industrial sector, and the
center for faculty leadership Development. We have also developed a complete
data base incorporating all available information about the University human
and material resources, and the Guide for Research Projects from 1991 to
2006.
We are working to
offer more developed student services, residence and recreation programs,
and extracurricular opportunities in order to provide our students with the
tools for lifelong learning, and the skills of creativity. Problem-solving
and leadership. We are also proud of our ability to now offer some programs
to students in remote areas through extended and distance education and
online learning.
More than 5.000
committed faculty and stuff work constantly to support the efforts of a
total student enrolment of more than 170.000 students in our main Alexandria
campuses and its 3 satellites in Edfina. Damanhour and Marsa-Matrouh. Today,
Alexandria University offers Bachelor, Masters, and PhD degrees in more than
25 disciplines. In addition, we are proud of our contributions and
achievements on both the local and national levels. We believe in our
ability in enhancing our position on the international level, and we have
the will.

programs, and share with us the same feeling of progress and growth.
